The building material of the future is wood. It is sustainable, easy to process, and with well-planned solutions wooden joists can cope with large spans. The consultancy firm Bjerking is a business partner for the development of Masonite Beams’ building system and has used the system in a number of projects.
“It’s all about keeping the physics of building in mind, and this is where Masonite Beams offers a reliable solution,” says Björn Johanson, Property Developer at Bjerking.
Down the years, Bjerking has solved problems, developed technologies and methods that serve as milestones in the history of Swedish construction technology. Since the 1990s, they have been investing in developing Masonite Beams’ lightweight building system, and according to Björn Johanson the technology has come a long way.
“Masonite Beams now has a well-developed building system. The floor structures can handle large spans while at the same time they have good strength, fire safety competence and acoustic competence. All of these parameters are important for a building system, if we lose any part of the chain, the result is no good.”
Tests that guarantee quality
Masonite Beams works actively with tests, documentation and other verifications to guarantee the quality promised by the building system. Thanks to the collaboration between Bjerking and Masonite Beams, as well as other external specialists,
they have succeeded in developing and launching an extremely competitive building system in the market.
“We leave nothing to chance. A series of tests are conducted in collaboration with Masonite Beams to verify new design solutions, and our team has a wealth of shared experience. Together with Masonite Beams, we find new solutions and develop Masonite Beams continuously,” says Björn Johanson at Bjerking.
What do you think will be the building material of the future?
“Wooden structures in bearing frames. There is much to support this for reasons of sustainability. Swedish timber industries also have a wealth of established knowledge in processing wood. Now many industries are investing in prefab, which offers higher quality control and less waste. Everything we do in society needs to be sustainable, including the construction industry.”
